Sonzai Zone

Liminal Vision
2019

Sonzai Zone presents a speculative fiction film on intimacy and loneliness after the normalization of ambient communication media.

An unlikely encounter between Yún and Souvd takes place in a near-future where social interactions are largely based on the mediation of human presence, known as ‘Sonzai-kan’. Shifting between XR games, Immersion Arcades and spatial home displays, their insidiously orchestrated relationship escalates into extreme idealization where boundaries between dreams and reality become ambivalent.

About the artists:
Liminal Vision is a creative collaboration between designer and filmmaker Emilia Tapprest (NVISIBLE.STUDIO) and cultural historian Victor Evink (S x m b r a). Grounded in the research field on ‘affect’ and its use through datafication, their work explores the role of value paradigms in emerging technocultural developments through worldbuilding, material artifacts and mixed media. Their research practice advances through different self-standing projects and takes various forms, from cinematic fiction shorts to immersive installations and writing.
